Hunting

Nestled at the base of the towering Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range, among the pinon pines and chico brush lies a private hunting oasis known as the Zeppelin ranch (GMU 82). The ranch occupies 11,000+ acres on the edge of the San Luis Valley, one of the largest alpine valleys in the world. While surrounded by 14,000-foot peaks, our hunting is physically low impact. This does not imply that hunting is without challenge. Our primary quarry is one of the largest elk herds in existence. While many hunters are accustomed to climbing hills and continually searching for elk, our hunts are incredibly unique. Our native herds live primarily on the flat floor of the San Luis Valley amongst the ranches and chico brush, a native plant similar to sagebrush. The mostly open terrain lends itself to exhilarating stalks on wary elk. Shot opportunities are plentiful but hunters should be prepared for 300 – 500 yard shots.
